Hi Pauline

Thanks for all the info on Asia's allergy - very useful to know. So glad she is ok now. I'll tell you more about Marni and to answer some questions you bought up : ) He was scratching from the minute I had him at 8 weeks old and went straight to vets where he was prescribed medication and hibiscub for his redness on his tummy. I started to use special washing powder for allergy sufferers for his bed too. After 5 months he was getting no better so went back to vet and instructed him to perform ALL allergy tests, which is when he had bloods taken, quiet alot, and skin scrapes. All the results come back negative... A friend of mine tried to help me by changing his food over to all natural products. But again Marni was getting worse and started gnawing at his arms to a point where he had chewed away his fur (see photos) I went back to vets and he said there had been a considerable change for the worse and so he referred Marni to the dermatologist at a very good hospital in Cheshire.

It was there that she explained that Marni's results would have come back negative as they arent usually very accurate until the dog is 12 months of age this is why she is doing the food trial for 7 weeks as by the end of that He will be 12 months old and theres a better chance of getting accurate results from the blood tests. As with alot of things nothing is 100 accurate for all allergy tests and cases, and she could have done the blood and skin tests yesterday but she said she wants it to work straight away and not have to keep going back as its a long way from where we live, so for the sake of 7 weeks she used the time to put him onto hypoallergenic food.

Our next appointment is on 22nd December for blood tests if he is still showing signs of gnawing and scratching after the food trial. I will ask her though how can she tell he isnt allergic to this food. I will be in contact with her via the telephone once a week as i have a few things to do. i.e he has a spray for his arms and under his tummy to use for 2 weeks with his new food being introduced over first week, then 4 solid weeks on food only, no medication as it can interfere with tests.

I will keep you informed : ) Thanks again for taking the time to answer : )

Day 4 into Marni's hypo allergenic food trial and it seems that he isnt gnawing at his legs and the fur is starting to grow back. Lets hope its just a food allergy. Denise he is booked for those tests we mentioned when he has all the other tests in December. I spoke to specialist today to inform her and she was going to perform them anyway. Pic below is before and after 4 days. 6 weeks to go : )

As long as they are all aware of the problems, the vets will do what is best Dawn, at least they know the history now.
Marnie does seem happier in his after pic.
