TOPIC: I lost Akira

I lost Akira 20 Sep 2014 20:42 #9634

Hi everyone
Just posting the sad news that I lost my dog Akira 4 weeks ago, I posted earlier in the year about her a few times and had some very kind responses.

I got Akira from a rescue centre near me last December but in June found a lump on her tummy, she had it removed but it was cancerous and I found more lumps again in August. The vet told me the cancer had returned and was a very aggressive type and one of the few strains that causes pain. So I had Akira put to sleep on 23rd of August.

I can't quite believe how fond of her I had become in 8 months. She was such a lovely person and very loving. I miss her very badly, I miss taking her for walks and how she would greet me when I came in after being out, I miss having to walk round after her when I wanted to brush her back legs because she didn't really like me doing it so we had to pretend it wasn't happening, I miss her fetching my gloves or scarf and throwing them down at my feet to hurry me up when we were going out for a walk. I miss her doing the "dinner dance" where she would hop from one front paw to the other and tilt her head from side to side when she was looking forward to her dinner.

I wanted to write a bit about her and also to thank everyone on the site for being kind to me when I've posted here before. I feel very privileged to have known Akira and very grateful to the friend of mine who initially spotted her photo on the rescue centre's website and encouraged me to take Akira out for a walk.

Thank you for reading this and best wishes to everyone.

Oh Betty, that's such sad news, I remember how much love, concern and care you had for your sweet girl, I can understand how much you miss her, from the sound of it she had a very special personality, the little dance is just what my old Benny did as a welcome dance so I know how special that little dance can be. All those special little things that made Akira who she was will always stay in your heart and you gave her such a loving last few months of her life. When you feel ready I hope you can offer another rescue akita a forever home, there's so many akita's who will be lucky to be your special friend.

Hi Betty,

Im so sorry to hear your sad news

It's amazing how attached we become in such a short space of time. They are a very big part of our lives. She had a good life with you and was shown true love in her time with you.

Run free over the bridge sweet Akira xx
If your dog doesn't like someone, then you probably shouldn't either !
