My beautiful 10yr old Akita rescue karri was put to sleep Monday 19th September. We were lucky enough to have 5 incredible years with the amazing little girlie, but our world came crashing down around us after the devasting news of her condition came Monday evening. Karri was breathing shallow and was lethargic from Monday morning. X-rays revealed a collapsed and twisted lung with possible cancer. We decided we cud not put her through such a big investigation and surgery, as we couldn't bear to see our baby suffering any longer.

We feel we have been robbed of spending time with her in her twilight years and we miss her every minute.

Rest in peace the beautiful princess karri dog. Life will never be the same without u, in our hearts today and always.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss....it's devastating when you have to make the decision, & it sounds as if it was quite sudden...be proud that you gave Karri 5 brilliant years, that brought her to a good old age....run free Karri ......Pam Maya & Scoobie

So sorry that you lost Karri. She didn't suffer and had 5 great years with you.

Hugs to you all and Kai.

Hi Claire
I am sorry to hear about your loss. I know how special Karri was and how she will be missed. You rescued her and gave her the life she deserved. 10 was a good age and thankfully her suffering was short.
Claire, why not post pics of all of your dogs so far. They are all beautiful.

Hi Forum Members FYi
Karri was five when she was rescued by Claire and Gary. They took her in along with a rescue Husky called Zeus. They had been involved in a messy divorce. Karri was grossly overweight when she came in and Zeus had health and anxiety issues. They had not been exercised and they had been thrown food over the fence. (way too much food), by the ex wife as she could not get access to them. Zeus passed away a few years ago. Claire and Gary then rescued a large white Male Akita, called Kai, also five years old. He is a gentle giant! He and Karri made the ideal white twin set. Claire and Gary had a baby girl and all lived in harmony.

I am so sorry to hear about Karri, this was so sudden and must have been such a shock for you.
It is devastating when you loose a special bear.
Be free Karri

If be I grow frail and weak,
And pain should wake me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle can’t be won.

You will be sad, I’ll understand,
Don’t let your grief then stay your hand,
For this day more than all the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test.

We’ve had so many happy years,
What is to come will hold no fears,
You’ll not want me to suffer, so,
When the time comes, please let me go.

I know in time, you too will see,
It is a kindness you do for me,
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering, I’ve been saved.

Do not grieve that it should be you,
Who has to decide this thing to do,
We’ve been so close, we two, these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.
