Just joined the forum and thought I would say hi. We aren't yet lucky enough to be owned by an Akita but hopefully next year some time! We're planning on having fairly extensive work done to the house next year, so we thought we would get that out of the way first so that the poor thing didn't have to cope with all that upheaval just shortly after coming to live with us. But after that we will definitely be looking to find a rescue Akita to come and live with us forever.

But in the meantime, I am reading and looking, and looking and reading, and learning about this amazing breed. Not been involved with Akitas before but used to have a fairly highly strung and stubborn GSD, (several years ago), which hopefully will stand us in good stead

Hello and welcome

If you've had stubborn dogs you're well on your way to understanding akita's

You sound like a knowlagable dog owner waiting until building work is done done is definalty the way to go, some rescues take some time to settle so the new home has to be as stress free as possible

There's so many needy boys and girls out there just waiting to be loved, so please ask about anything you need to know and we'll do our best to give you answers.

Thank you so much for considering giving an akita forever home

I definitely will do, and in the meantime I'll keep an eye on the forum, etc. It's so lovely to see all the pics and hear all the stories.

Hello and welcome to ARW

It is best to wait until major work is completed before bringing your new best friend home. It is a big thing for them to move into a new family and you want them to feel comfortable and settle in without any upset.

What part of the Country are you? We have group walks in a few locations so you could always join one of them to meet a few Akitas and im sure when the time is right we are bound to have an ideal family member for you
If your dog doesn't like someone, then you probably shouldn't either !

Definitely. It's enough for them to cope with coming into a new home, with new people, new routines, etc., without suddenly changing it all again and having lots of strange people and noises around!

That sounds lovely! We are in Isleworth, so West London - Twickenham / Richmond / Hounslow sort of area.

My geography is awful !!! But dont tell anyone

We use kennels in Essex so we have walks going on around there and we have had a walk in Kent too if you would be able to get to either of those destinations

We usually post our walks on the Facebook group but we do try to get on here as much as we can too so keep an eye out. There arent any due that way for a little while yet though, we are having one in the Midlands towards the end of September
