Meet Paddy – Available for Adoption 🐾💙
Paddy is a gorgeous 7 year old Akita boy who is looking for a new home through no fault of his own. Sadly, following a death in the family, his current home has had to focus on caring for other relatives, leaving Paddy spending long periods alone and missing out on the time, attention, and exercise he truly deserves.
Paddy is a happy, enthusiastic boy who greets people with excitement and interest. He settles well once he’s had a moment to decompress and shows lovely manners, he doesn’t bark unnecessarily, takes treats gently, and is clearly used to being handled and fussed over.
He knows his basic commands such as sit and down (and even a rather enthusiastic “get out and move!”). On walks, Paddy can be very excited at the start and may pull, but after the first five minutes he settles nicely. Some consistent lead training would really help him shine.
Paddy enjoys the company of other dogs and is keen to play, though smaller dogs can sometimes feel unsure of him due to his size. He currently lives happily with a smaller, older female dog, she definitely wears the trousers, and Paddy adores her despite being thoroughly bossed around. With careful introductions, he could potentially live with an older, spayed female dog.
In the garden, Paddy shows some prey drive and may occasionally chase birds if the mood takes him.
He currently lives with a cat, and while their relationship is very one-sided (Paddy desperately wants to be friends), he tolerates the occasional swipe with good grace. However, we can’t say he would be accepting of unfamiliar cats in a new environment.
Paddy is a sound, kind natured male with an outstanding temperament. He listens well and truly just wants to be loved and included. He’s affectionate without being needy and is never demanding or annoying. He displays classic Akita traits, a little aloof at times, wonderfully goofy at others.
He is used to a busy household with children and people coming and going, and he seems to enjoy having a sense of purpose, particularly in looking out for his older canine companion. As he moves into his senior years, we feel Paddy would thrive in a calm, steady home with older children or with a single person or couple looking for loyal companionship.
Paddy has so much love still to give and is simply waiting for someone to choose him. Through no fault of his own, life around him has changed, and he now needs a home where he can once again be a true part of the family. He deserves to be someone’s priority, to have his days filled with companionship, gentle adventures, and the comfort of knowing he belongs.
