At just over a year old this beautiful girl is looking for a new home through no fault of her own.
On our assessor’s arrival, Athena was friendly and excitable but settled quickly, showing a good level of composure for her age.
She is a confident girl who is comfortable being handled all over, including paws, ears and mouth, and she takes treats gently. She knows her name and will come when called, although this can be intermittent and will need further work.
Athena is strong on the lead initially but soon relaxes into a steady walk. She has shown no negative reactions to her environment, remaining calm around traffic and people. She will show interest in passers-by but is happy to continue walking. When encountering other dogs, Athena observes quietly with no barking or reactive behaviour. Her prey drive appeared to be low; she showed interest in pigeons during assessment but chose to disengage and move on. Obviously in her own space / garden this may differ.
She is a confident, gentle and willing-to-please girl who is food motivated, which will support her ongoing training. Athena will benefit from continued guidance and structure in her new home.
Home requirements:
- Akita experienced home essential
- Could live with a calm, neutered male dog, subject to careful introductions. Currently lives with a small dog and has shown good manners.
- Has lived with cats but does chase them, therefore a home without feline friends would be better.
- Commitment to ongoing training required.
- Children aged 12 +
Athena is a lovely young Akita with a solid temperament who should settle well into the right home.
