This handsome young Japanese Akita is looking for a new home through absolutely no fault of his own.
Hachi is sensitive and can display nervous and fearful behaviours. He finds the world a little overwhelming and needs someone who truly understands his breed and temperament. Breed experience is essential, as he will need a patient, understanding and committed adopter who can give him the time and space he needs to feel safe.
Trust is not something that comes easily to this boy. He takes time to warm up to new people, and building a bond with him will require patience, consistency and a gentle approach. He cannot be rushed, and it is important that his future family understands that progress will happen at his pace, not ours.
Despite his initial nerves when being assessed, his assessor described him as gentle, sweet, and curious. Once the assessor had established trust, Hachi was quite happy to take treats and pets.
🏡 Several meet-ups with potential adopters will be required before adoption can go ahead. These visits will give him the opportunity to become familiar with you gradually, build confidence and begin to develop a trusting relationship. We want to make sure that both he and his future family feel comfortable before taking that next important step.
Hachi needs a calm, understanding home with someone who will see beyond his fear and recognise the dog he has the potential to become when he feels safe and secure. He may not be the dog who runs straight up to greet you, but with the right person, time and dedication, he deserves every opportunity to build a bond and enjoy a happy future.
