Are you compassionate, calm under pressure, and passionate about large breed dogs (especially Akitas and their breed traits) and animal welfare? Do you have spare time during the day (occasionally some evening and weekend work) and regular access to a computer?
We are looking for dedicated volunteers to strengthen our team.
We are a breed specific rescue committed to safeguarding Akitas and ensuring they have a safe future. Our Rehoming Volunteers are often the first point of contact for owners facing the difficult decision to surrender their dog. This role requires empathy, professionalism, and a methodical and thorough approach.
About the Role
As a Rehoming Volunteer, you will work directly with owners who are looking to relinquish their Akitas. Pounds looking for rescue space for Akitas in need or other rescues looking for help in advertising Akitas on their behalf.
You will gather detailed information about the dog from the completed forms, assess circumstances, and help guide the process safely and responsibly.
Key Responsibilities
- Responding to surrender enquiries mostly via email. You will be required call to obtain further information if needed, speaking sensitively and professionally.
- Assessing and reviewing surrender forms
- Asking relevant follow up questions to ensure full understanding
- Coordinating behaviour assessments from organisation through to creating a dog profile ready for adoption. Liaising with the wider team at all stages.
What We Are Looking For
- Strong, confident communication skills
- Methodical, thorough, and reliable approach to handling information
- Confidence in asking appropriate and sometimes difficult questions
- Passion for the Akita breed and animal welfare
- Previous rescue experience is helpful but not essential
- Daytime availability (occasionally some evening & weekend work) and regular access to a computer
