Devastating News

At ARW we often struggle to accept the lows but this has been a truly heartbreaking week.

ARW’s Darcey Of Banbury is at Rainbow Bridge after being humanely euthanised this morning. Darcey’s adopter, Lorraine was with her as she crossed the bridge at the Vet Hospital in Chipping Norton. Darcey was just nine months old. 💔

Darcey’s UTI had returned but much more aggressively. We noticed an abnormality with her lady bits, she had a hooded vulva and it was much smaller than average.

Blood tests and urine tests revealed that renal failure was imminent. Given that this was a pre-existing condition and not covered by insurance, ARW funded all tests and an ultra sound. It revealed that Darcey had a congenital condition. She only had one kidney. It was much smaller than it should be and it was largely covered in a mass. Darcey became unwell and her immune system could not cope with the drugs required to fight the infection. Darcey passed away peacefully this morning at the vet hospital in Chipping Norton with Lorraine by her side. 💔

Our thoughts are with Lorraine, Richard and family and thank them for making the last few months of Darcey’s life absolutely well worth living.

Rest in peace Darcey, we gave it our best shot at showing you the life that you so well deserved.

Although Darcey is no longer with us, her vet bill is. If you would like to contribute to the care Darcey received, please email info@akitarescue.org.uk

Thank you
